Connecting at this year’s AMO Conference

MPAC was pleased to attend this year’s AMO Conference in London, Ontario, as both an exhibitor and presenter. Over 2,500 delegates from across the province joined together for the three day event, which featured more than 60 speakers, sessions and workshops and covered a broad scope of topics important to municipalities today.

For our annual MPAC update Nicole McNeill, President and Chief Administrative Officer was joined by Alan Spacek, Chair, MPAC Board of Directors and Carmelo Lipsi, Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for a fulsome presentation. This well-attended session featured highlights of our recent work, details of our work to keep Ontario’s property database current, the tools we have to support property owners and municipalities, and some property insights.

Mary Dawson-Cole, Director, Municipal and Stakeholder Relations participated in a panel discussion about MPAC’s recent collaboration with AMO/LAS and Cloudpermit in an e-permitting pilot project. Joined by Marnie Cluckie, CAO, Niagara-on-the-Lake who spoke about her municipality’s experience with the pilot and Jarkko Turtiainen, Senior Vice President at Cloudpermit, who shared information about the software and process, the presentation generated questions from the audience about the value of e-permitting for their organizations, and how to start the modernization process.

“As the only organization with access to all building permits in Ontario, MPAC plays an important part in the building permit process,” says Dawson-Cole. “Municipalities rely on us to take building permits and plans and turn them into assessment and the success of this pilot, and our work with other e-permitting vendors, speaks to our commitment to creating opportunities that support our partners. With significantly more homes being built over the next 10 years, our collaboration with AMO/LAS to create a fully digitized end-to-end e-permitting process is a valuable service.”

At the MPAC booth, our Municipal and Stakeholder Relations team was excited to connect with municipal leaders to share the latest information about our work and initiatives, and answer questions about the current valuation process and valuation date.
