Spotlight on transparency: MPAC joins Ontario organizations as an exhibitor in the IPC’s Transparency Showcase

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is honoured to be featured as an exhibitor in the Transparency Showcase, a virtual exhibit of innovative and impactful transparency projects by Ontario organizations, curated by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC).

Last September, on International Right to Know Day, the IPC launched the Transparency Challenge, which looked to Ontario’s public institutions to share creative examples of projects and programs that modernize and improve government transparency and promote civic engagement to improve the lives of Ontarians.

IPC’s challenge ties in well with MPAC’s mission over the past 20 years to increase transparency around the property assessment process and how we determine assessed values for Ontario’s more than 5.5 million properties across the province.

In response to the IPC’s call for submissions, we highlighted our online portal, AboutMyProperty™, which can be accessed through mpac.ca.

AboutMyProperty™ has helped improve our transparency and accountability to Ontarians by offering every property owner in Ontario free access to:

  • detailed information about their property;
  • information on how their property was assessed through our methodology guides and market valuation reports;
  • interactive tools which allow property owners to compare their property to others in their neighbourhood; and
  • the ability to file a Request for Reconsideration if they disagree with their assessed value.

The portal has made accessing property data easier than ever, which is important as this information equips Ontarians with a better understanding of how we value one of their largest assets – their property.

We are happy to be featured among other impressive projects in the Transparency Showcase and are proud to do our part to promote Ontarians’ access rights.
